Great Falls is the third largest city in Montana, but the state has a lot to offer a short drive from the city as well. If you don’t mind a little traveling while you’re here, you might want to take a trip to one of our state parks or skiing resorts.
Benton Lake National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most popular attractions in Montana and is only a 30min drive from our hotel in Great Falls. You don’t need a pass to enter and explore the 12,000 acre refuge, but you will need a permit if you’re interested in hunting or fishing. Most of the refuge is prairie surrounded by the Highwood Mountains to the east, the Rocky Mountains to the west, and the Big Belt Mountains to the south.
Showdown Skiing is one of the premiere skiing locations in Montana. Not only is the resort a quick 1hr drive from Great Falls, but there’s a shuttle that picks up less than 2 miles away from the Imperial Inn which can take you and your family there. Other skiing locations include Great Divide Skiing and Teton Pass Ski Resort, which are each about 2 hours away from Great Falls.
Glacier National Park, located on the border to Canada, is only 2 hours and 45 minutes away from our hotel, and is one of the top parks in the country. With over 700 miles of trails, it’s the perfect place to hike; especially if you enjoy solitude. The park boast pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains, and spectacular lakes which you will not soon forget. If you enjoy nature, Yellowstone national park is also within driving distance of our hotel at roughly 4 hours away from Great Falls.
